My beautiful folding bike...

My beautiful folding bike...

incessant buzzing
fuelled metal infestation
the grand prix begins…

Melbourne is infested by fuel guzzling, metal madness and many of us don’t understand why Melbourne tax payers have to subdise the insanity.

Give me peddle power any day.

Uplifting and inspiring

Daniel Kitson was amazing, an absolute delight. His story about what goes on in his mind when he says “I would like some cheese” was incredible. He mind-mapped the subtext and all the thoughts that goes on in his head when he thinks about cheese. His premise how inadequate words are to express thoughts.

He show really focussed on the importance of caring, respecting and connecting in what is essentially a “sick, sad world”. I laughed myself silly. The show was sometimes confronting and sombre but I left with lots of food for thought and a craving for cheese.

I love that fact that Kitson has embraced his geekdom and celebrates the unorthodox way his mind works. I would encourage you to go and check him out.

Haiku #1

From the train window
Fleeting glances of lost souls
Waiting for their day

I am a big fan of the sculpture of Bruce Armstrong’s eagle sculpture “Bunjil“. I appreciate that it watches over Melbourne.

Haiku #2

Benevolent bird
Watching and protecting us

Festivals

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of my favourites. I read in today’s Age that the Melbourne Jazz Festival is struggling with a number of major acts withdrawing. I wonder if it comes too quickly on the heels of the comedy festival and also it is getting a bit cooler. I am sure that wont put jazz fanatics off though.

That’s it for today. Still having problems uploading images. Advice appreciated.

Peace out

Downside of having fur…

I don’t want to whine about the heat but damn it is hot, hot, hot in Melbourne. I am missing my evaporative cooler at home. It must be really hard if you are covered in fur in weather like this.

I have a black lab and she really suffers in the heat. She digs holes and sits in them to keep cool. I have been extremely uncomfortable and I am sure the animals must be too. When I got home the cats barely acknowledged me until I turned the air conditioner on and they came upstairs to cool down.

It was difficult to sleep too and having a wakeful period at 2.00 am meant I slept in and as it was already 29 degrees when I woke up, I decided not to take Guy out for a walk. I am praying that it cools down soon.

This article explains how to care for your dogs in this heat. Really common sense: http://blog1.rspcasa.asn.au/2007/01/04/caring-for-your-animals-in-hot-weather/

If you have a ceiling fan or bedroom fan but no air conditioning you can stay cool by trying this:

  1. Have a cool shower and dry off
  2. You may want to place a towel on your bed before you lie down
  3. Lay naked under a wet sarong

Hopefully tonight it wont be so bad!
