I have an interesting dilemma… can I actually call this a library blog. I have found that I blog less and less about things library and use the blog more as a forum to write. So I am going to set myself a target to blog about things library at least once a week fortnight .
Can I do it – let’s see in 2009? I am however pleased to announce to the library world that I have officially become the secretary of VALA for next year. David Feighan recently stepped down as secretary to become President. I have big shoes to fill but it is a terrific committee of dedicated and tech savvy people. I just have to toot our own horn and say the Program Committee are lining up some wonderful keynotes for our next conference. I believe VALA2010 – Connections. Content. Conversations. will be awesome!
The highlights of this year have been:
- Mal Booth – Australian War Memorial talking about things Web 2.0. Inspirational!
- Next Generation Learning Spaces Colloquium – libraries are doing very well when it comes to designing new spaces that combine what we do best with the need to create spaces that encourage and support learning
- Information Literacy: Is the Grim Reaper knocking at the door? - a thought-provoking day that explored the future of information literacy
Next year I am looking forward to my first Information Online in January and then it’s off to Educause in Perth. I am thrilled that several people from Swinburne will be presenting.
I just have to say that for me “library” remains an exciting and vibrant industry to work in and I am sure that next year will be an ace too!
Hi Kim
Congratulations on your VALA appointment! It just confirms the fact that this is a blog written by a conscientious librarian, which by association makes it a kind of library blog. I’ll see you at Information Online!
